Vintage "Catena" floor lamp by Carlo Nason for Mazzega
The collaboration between designer-glassmaker Carlo Nason and Murano based furnace Mazzega is probably the most prolific and celebrated in the history of artistic glassmaking. The outcome of this relation, carried on for more than two decades, are mostly lamps of all kinds: chandeliers, table lamps, sconces and floor lamps.
Amongst the different series that Nason designed, the "Catena" is one of the lesser known. Their name, italian for chain, refers to the peculiar shape of the glasses, resembling the intertwined links of a chain. Extremely sought after and very hard to find in good condition due to their fragility, these lamps now command high premiums at auctions and design fairs all around the globe.
The present example is preserved in original condition. It has minor and expectable signs of wear, with a light, even and pleasant patina to the chrome coating. The two glasses have no cracks nor dents and are still shiny. All the fixing screws are present and original. It will be provided with included light bulbs, after a full inspection by a certified electrician.
