For sale is a vintage Italian modular bookshelf crafted in rosewood veneer, with painted steel legs. It has three mobile shelves and a cabinet with locket and key. The configuration can be rearranged at pleasure thanks to the holes drilled on the legs every 10cm.
Expressing a clearly Mid-Century Modern design, this bookshelf is a little gem conceived at a time when modular bookcases were at their origins, with designers the likes of Ico Parisi and Franco Albini exploring this all new and fascinating way of rationally producing pieces of furniture that could fit everyone's need without having to give up on the great quality of Italian craftsmanship.
Particularly interesting is the use of brass details, clearly a heritage from previous aesthetic currents, that are however integrated in the general design without resulting baroque or too heavy, definitely not an easy result to achieve when working on an appearance so essential and refined that it is still contemporary to these days.
The shelves measure 29 by 74 centimeters, while the cabinet is 37cm deep, 42 high and 74 wide. It is in original conditions, the flip door of the cabinet works smoothly and so does the locket. It is stiff and stable.
Produced in Italy between the 1960s and the 1970s.
