Vintage Murano ashtray in grey glass
While some Murano ashtrays come in simple shapes, others have more ornate and sculptural styles. The skilled glassblowers and artisans of the venetian island can effortlessly obtain the most fantasious shapes out of the fascinating material they work with, and in this case they decided to create some sort of an ear.
Crafted from a dark grey glass that takes on purple hues under a certain light, massive and solid, this ashtray comes from the mid/late Sixties and is preserved in astonishing good condition given its age. IIt has no damage and virtually no signs of use; the label underneath, reading "A.A.S.T. Venezia" suggests that it was originally consigned to the Tourist Support Agency of Venice, where it probably spent most of its life.
Its dimension makes it also ideal as a valet tray, or as a more traditional ashtray, or even as just a beautiful and rare to find decorative piece. It measures 16 by 13cm and has a height of 7cm.
